Mac is a native of Central Ohio and graduated from Muskingum College in New Concord, OH with an Education Degree in 1968. After a short career in the teaching field, he began work with the Jerry McClain Company where he currently serves as Vice President in charge of Senior Assisted Living Residences.
Mac began his career in the remodeling field for the McClain Company and maintained that background for many years. He has also participated in the construction management of custom homes and commercial projects for the company and began working in the Assisted Living field for McClain in 1986. He was involved in a project in Heath, Ohio where he incorporated the concept of Aging-in-Place and Universal Design as part of a “Visitable” community, combined with one of the latest assisted living residences, The Chapel Grove Inn. This project won a Gold Award in 2004 at the Senior Housing Design Awards Program in Las Vegas.
He has been a member of many committees for the local Building Industry Association, and also served as president for two separate terms. Kennedy spent many years on the Ohio Homebuilders Association Executive Committee and approximately 13 years as Chairman of the Ohio Remodeler’s Council. In 1995 he was appointed by OHBA to the Residential Lead Abatement Advisory Council for Ohio and currently serves as a Life Director for OHBA and NAHB.
Mac has served on numerous councils for NAHB, including the Remodeler’s Council, Commercial Builders, and the Senior Housing Council. He has been a trustee for the Commercial Builders and Seniors Housing Councils. Mac was chairman of the Senior’s Council in the year 2000 during which time he served on the NAHB Executive Committee. He also served on the Manufactured Housing Task Force and is currently a member of the Homestore Advisory Task Force for NAHB. He is currently serving as co-chair for the newly formed Ohio 50+ Housing Council.
Mr. Kennedy has spoken at the Multi Housing World Convention, local builder’s organizations and The International Builder’s Show in the areas of Senior Assisted Living and Universal Design.
Mac serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Disability Services in Licking County, which is an organization that was begun to assist individuals and their families with developmental disabilities. He has also been a member of Rotary International since 1982 and currently resides in Granville, Ohio with his wife Sheila of 38 years.
